What Does Blood on the Danube Add?

Budapest’s streets and Hungary’s open battlefields put very different demands on your squad. Easy Red 2 Blood on the Danube adds three campaigns with 30+ missions across two maps, bringing urban fighting and major armored operations into the same expansion. Released July 15, 2026, it requires the base game.

The setting is Hungary during the closing months of World War II. Alongside the campaigns, you get Hungarian and Romanian factions, dedicated voice acting, additional infantry weapons, and vehicles ranging from Hungarian armored cars to Soviet heavy assault guns.

The expansion builds on the game’s existing combined arms combat: infantry, tanks, aircraft, squad orders, realistic weapon handling, and destructible environments. Its appeal comes from the range of equipment and situations within that framework, including experimental German night vision gear.

The Three Hungary Campaigns

Siege of Budapest

The Budapest campaign centers on the encirclement of German and Hungarian forces by the Red Army. Urban combat takes the spotlight, shifting attention toward street approaches, buildings, and nearby enemy positions.

Expect a different rhythm from the rural campaigns. Moving infantry through a city makes squad coordination especially relevant, while destructible environments give the battlefield room to change around you.

Keep your squad involved when advancing through streets, and reassess cover after nearby structures take damage.

The Konrad Offensives

The Konrad campaigns cover Axis attempts to break the Soviet encirclement and relieve Budapest. Fighting moves into rural Hungary east of Lake Balaton during winter, with large infantry and armored engagements.

This setting gives the expansion’s tanks more room to operate. The contrast with Budapest is central to the package: the same DLC moves between concentrated city fighting and broader battles across the countryside.

Operation Spring Awakening

Operation Spring Awakening follows the late-war Axis offensive near Lake Balaton. Large tank engagements are a major part of its identity, bringing the expansion’s German and Soviet armor into focus.

This campaign also includes the Vampir ZG-1229 night vision scope for the STG-44. It represents equipment used in limited engagements, adding an unusual weapon configuration to the late-war setting.

The advertised mission total is 30+ missions across two maps. Those missions are distributed across all three campaigns; the expansion does not contain 30 separate maps.

New Factions and Infantry Weapons

Hungary and Romania join the faction roster with dedicated voice acting. The expansion also adds well over 100 uniforms and helmets, including late-war German and Soviet equipment.

The infantry arsenal gives these battles more regional character than simply adding another set of familiar German and Soviet guns.

  • Hungarian rifles: Mannlicher 35M and 43M, alongside Mannlicher 95/30, 95/31, and G98/40.
  • Submachine guns: PPS-42, PPS-43, Danuiva 39M and 43M, and Orița M1941.
  • Light machine guns: 31M./43M. Solothurn, Madsen 24/43M, and ZB-30.
  • Additional rifles: Mosin-Nagant M44 Carbine, AVT-40, and ZB vz. 24, including its sniper variant.
  • Specialist equipment: ROKS Flamethrower, Panzerfaust 100, and 44M kézi rakétavető.
  • Sidearms and support weapons: FÉG 37M and M.08/12 Schwarlose.

For players interested in Hungarian infantry, the Mannlicher and Danuiva additions are particularly relevant: they give the faction its own weapons to accompany its uniforms and voices.

The Vampir ZG-1229-equipped STG-44 is a separate highlight. Its bulky night vision scope gives the rifle a distinctive configuration, while the vehicle roster includes a Panther with infrared equipment as well.

Tanks, Assault Guns, and Aircraft

Heavy armor is a substantial part of this expansion. The Tiger II and IS-2 headline the additions, but the roster also includes assault guns, flamethrower tanks, Hungarian vehicles, and aircraft.

Other Hungarian vehicles40M Nimród, 39M Csaba Armored Car
AircraftYak-3 and additional late-war plane variants

The OT-34-85 combines the familiar T-34 platform with a flamethrower, while the ISU series expands the Soviet heavy assault gun selection. Hungarian armor adds another layer of variety beyond the German and Soviet heavy tanks.

Avoid repeatedly firing into heavy frontal armor when your shots fail to penetrate. Reposition for a different angle, and coordinate infantry with armored support rather than sending either forward alone.

What Update 2.1.1 Changes

The November 1, 2026 “Cold Steel” update, version 2.1.1, improves Mannlicher 31M animations and the FEG 37M’s idle position. It also reworks German, Hungarian, and Soviet gear, making several changes relevant to returning Hungary campaign players.

The broader update introduces an in-hand melee system with slashing, stabbing, and blocking animations for supported weapons. Hold the melee button to draw or put away a bayonet as a knife. On keyboard, 3 cycles melee weapons in your inventory.

Enemy AI can also draw melee weapons at close range, including using bayonets when their firearms are empty. Leave enough space to react when closing on an enemy whose gun has stopped firing.

Mission-placed furniture—including tables, chairs, beds, shelves, and desks—is now destructible. Treat indoor cover as something that can disappear during a fight.

On PC, the pause menu also gains contextual information about weapons, vehicles, missions, and campaigns. Use it when you encounter unfamiliar Hungarian equipment.

Price, Platforms, and Purchase Requirements

The Steam version’s regular U.S. price is $7.99. Its November promotion reduces that to $6.39, with the 20% discount ending November 15.

The PS4 version is priced at $6.99 in the U.S. PlayStation Store. It supports offline single-player, and PlayStation Plus is required for online play.

For Steam players, the expansion supports Windows, macOS, and Linux. Have the base game installed, and connect Steam online for your first launch if prompted.

The DLC’s new environments, factions, and equipment also integrate with the mission and map editor on PC. For custom scenarios, use assets from DLCs you own: version 2.1.1 skips items from unowned expansions and displays a message in the F3 console.
